Mingle with your neighbors, sip on a glass of wine or hot cup of java, and enjoy the The Naples Chamber Ensembles Playing Music From Pop (Colplay, Beatles, Santana, Rolling Stones) To Classical (Mozart, Vivaldi). All donations from the evening will go to Doctors Without Borders, or make a donation online: www.doctorswithoutborders.org

About Doctors Without Borders, USA
Doctors Without Borders, USA (DWB-USA) was founded in 1990 in New York City to raise funds, create awareness, recruit field staff, and advocate with the United Nations and US government on humanitarian concerns. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization that provides aid in nearly 60 countries. In 2007, MSF-USA raised $152.1 million and sent 200 aid workers to work overseas.

MSF has been working in Haiti for 19 years, most recently operating three emergency hospitals in Port-au-Prince, and is mobilizing a large emergency response to this disaster. Our immediate response in the first hours following the disaster in Haiti was only possible because of private unrestricted donations from around the world received before the earthquake struck. We are currently reinforcing our teams on the ground in order to respond to the immediate medical needs and to assess the humanitarian needs that MSF will be addressing in the months ahead.

About The Naples Chamber Ensembles
Established in 1980, the members of Naples Chamber Ensembles are professional musicians who have accompanied performers including Yanni, Rod Stewart, Yo Yo Ma, Celine Dion, Il Diva and John Tesh. NCE has over 1,000 selections in their musical repertoire, from “Pachelbel’s Canon in D” to the Beatle’s “Eleanor Rigby”.

The film screens at The Art Theatre and will be presented alongside a live original score written and performed by the Creative Arts Collective, an LA-based ensemble dedicated to promoting improvisational, experimental and diverse art forms in visual arts, music, dance and theater.

Seating begins at 11:45 pm; Film Screens At Midnite.

Inducted into the National Film Registry in 1998, director Rupert Julian’s adaptation of the classic Gaston Leroux novel features Lon Chaney in what is perhaps his most famous role, that of the murderous Phantom. Nicknamed “The Man of a Thousand Faces,” Chaney famously designed and applied his own makeup, including applying actual egg membrane to his eyeballs to make them look cloudy! The result is one of cinema’s greatest Gothic horror films – don’t miss this rare opportunity to see it with a brand new score!

Lil Devils Boutique [2218 E 4th St., Long Beach; 562.439.0555], which celebrated its 1-year anniversary this past August, offers unique apparel and pop culture tees, irreverent tchotchsky’s and trimmings, retro toys and treats, as well as an assortment of hip gifts and a lil something for the whole family. Over the past year, Lil Devils owners Pete Toulios and Sarah Benton have gone above and beyond just offering kid-friendly stuff by hosting an assortment of entertaining events—from the Easter egg-stravaganza (with a larger-than-life bunny), to a pre-Mom’s Day in-store pampering (including free massages for all moms).
“We’ve had great success at finding unique and locally handmade goods for the store,” offers Toulios, “Being in the heart of ‘Retro Row’—where shoppers come to find unique items not found anywhere else locally—has proven to be the perfect location for Lil Devils. Our customers are always thrilled by the constantly-changing selection of cool duds, toys and more that we offer.”

Reading begins at 7:00 followed by Q&A with the author and book signing.

nighthawks web art“Nighthawks” is the second installment in “A Julie Page Mystery” series following the series debut last year of “5th and Vanguard”, and further establishes the author as a serious literary voice in the burgeoning world of neo-noir.

Though “Nighthawks” is set in the fictional seaside town of Berle, it will appeal to Long Beach natives with locations that seem hauntingly familiar. “Nighthawks” offers the same broken concrete and burnt-out neon as its predecessor, but escorts the reader further underground. No apologies for bad behavior, “Nighthawks” is a love letter addressed to our darker inclinations.
