Bean & Rice from 4th Street Vine are at it again! Their new Wednesday night series, “The Emerging Sounds of Wednesdays” showcases local bands & original music. A great way to check out new artists, paired with a glass of whatever’s-your-pleasure! February’s calendar boasts: Feb 1st: DJ Solecto, spinning old school hip hop on vinyl; Feb 8th: Forest of Tongues + Special guest; Feb 15th: Honeybear + Special guest, Feb 22nd: TBD; Feb 29th: Angela Jane and Jenny Stockdale.

Inspiration Vol. 3: Kick-Off Party at inretrospect
Thursday, February 9th 6pm-9pm

Art, fashion, culture and vintage enthusiasts from around the globe will gather again at So-Cal’s premiere historic art deco destination, The Queen Mary, for Inspiration 2012—a 2-day show bringing together 100 international fashion/art/accessory/surf vendors and artisans offering unique and one-of-a-kind merchandise on exhibit and for sale—Friday-Saturday, February 10-11th, 2012. The event kicks off on Thursday, February 9th with a preview party from 6-9pm at inretrospect [2122 E. 4th]. Replete with catering by Number Nine, the party is open to the public with music (ala DJ Dennis Owens), drinks & Vintage/Americana goodness, PLUS a ‘Meet & Greet’ with promoter Rin Tanaka and the curators of his recent books featuring the vintage collections of Larry Heller and our own Kathleen Schaaf of Meow. Songbird Kauzbots Event
Saturday, February 11, Noon-4pm

There are 10 different handcrafted, colorful and lovable Kauzbots robots, each created to inspire kids and adults to change the world. 10% of the retail price of robot plush toys and accompanying apparel is donated to the kauz (aka cause) close to the robot’s heart. Only at Songbird [2240 E. 4th].

Monthly Financial Literacy Series At The Center

Heart Art: “Take a Little Piece of My Heart” Exhibit
Portfolio Coffeehouse – Opens February 1 through end of the month
For the month of February, Portfolio Coffeehouse [2300 E. 4th] celebrates the art of the heart! In this group show, artist/curator Michael Stearns and three colleagues—Peter Stearns, Richard Lopez and Lance Green—present works in honor of Valentine’s Day. “Take a Little Piece of My Heart” addresses the idealistic romance of the holiday, while also acknowledging lost love, broken hearts, and the whimsy of love. Opens February 1st and hangs through the end of the month.

Book Signing, Art Showcase and Private Portfolio Sale with Exclusive In-Store Artist Appearance

inretrospect is proud to host the appearance of David Weidman, one of California’s most revered mid-century modern artists, at an in-store event on Saturday, November 26th.

This event is a very special celebration of Weidman’s career and body of work and gives fans the opportunity to meet the artist and to see the largest selection of original prints available outside of his studio. Original, signed Weidman serigraphs and posters — including many from the artist’s private portfolio — will be on exhibit and available for purchase. In addition, Mr. Weidman will sign copies of The Whimsical Works of David Weidman (and also some serious ones), an informative, full-color biography of his highly creative life and work published in 2008.
