Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” At The Art
| March 19, 2010 11:55 pm | to | March 20, 2010 2:30 am |
Winner of the New York Film Critics awards for Best Picture and Best Director, and nominated for four Academy Awards, Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange is considered by many to be one of the finest films of the 1970’s, as well as one of the most accomplished film adaptations of a novel in the history of cinema.
Based on Anthony Burgess’ challenging and controversial dystopian 1962 novel, A Clockwork Orange tells the tale of Alex, a charismatic young hoodlum who leads his gang of thugs through vicious attacks on innocent victims in a futuristic England. Driven by violence, obsessed with Beethoven, and monstrously unsympathetic, Alex’s crimes catch up with him when he is arrested after a particularly violent attack. After years in prison, Alex volunteers to undergo a new form of “aversion therapy,” after which he suddenly finds himself a pawn in a political game between a corrupt government and a driven underground opposition.
Fueled by Malcolm McDowell’s iconic performance, Wendy Carlos’ legendary score, and John Alcott’s pristine cinematography, A Clockwork Orange is a peerless and powerful cinematic experience. We are proud to present a 35mm print of Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, courtesy of our friends at Warner Bros.
* Guests who come dressed as a “Droog” (a character from the film) get in ½ off! *
