Music At Portfolio: Carole Martini

December 12, 2009
9:00 pmto11:00 pm

Carol Martini has been a songwriter since the age of 11, having given up the violin for the more songwriter-friendly acoustic guitar. This prolific songwriter has released 4 independent CDs: “The Story So Far”, “Piece By Piece”, “Modern Loneliness” and the newly completed “The Rose In The Boxcar” dedicated to her dad. “Boxcar” was named one of Orange County’s Top Ten local releases of 2005.

Her style has been described as folk-rock with an edge. Carol continues to play weekly at coffee-houses, small clubs, bookstores and college venues. Her extensive repertoire and the wide variety of subject matter ensure that no two performances are ever alike.

“The Phantom Of The Opera” (1925) With Live Score At The Art Theatre

December 4, 2009 11:45 amtoDecember 5, 2009 1:30 am

Phantom_FlyerMondoCelluloid.com announces the triumphant return of its “Live Score Classics” series with Lon Chaney’s 1925 horror classic “The Phantom of the Opera”. The film screens at The Art Theatre and will be presented alongside a live original score written and performed by the Creative Arts Collective, an LA-based ensemble dedicated to promoting improvisational, experimental and diverse art forms in visual arts, music, dance and theater.

Seating begins at 11:45 pm; Film Screens At Midnite.

Inducted into the National Film Registry in 1998, director Rupert Julian’s adaptation of the classic Gaston Leroux novel features Lon Chaney in what is perhaps his most famous role, that of the murderous Phantom. Nicknamed “The Man of a Thousand Faces,” Chaney famously designed and applied his own makeup, including applying actual egg membrane to his eyeballs to make them look cloudy! The result is one of cinema’s greatest Gothic horror films – don’t miss this rare opportunity to see it with a brand new score!
